Today, we are going to be taking a look at the steps required to earn your G licence.
So, whether you’ve recently moved to Ontario, or perhaps you are simply interested in learning how to drive now our step-by-step guide has everything you need to know about how you can go about it!
Before you can begin driving, you must pass a written test. This written test is focused on the rules of the road, and also tests your ability to recognise traffic signs.
We recommend that you ensure you have done a sufficient amount of practice for this test, as not only do you need to pass it, you will need to remember these rules and signs for the rest of your driving time.

G1 Licence Experience
Now that you’ve passed your written test and earned your G1 licence, it’s time to take to the roads and start learning.
After earning your G1 licence, you must wait 1 year before you can take your G1 road test.
So in this time, you should focus on getting as much driving experience as you can.
This will give you the best chance at passing your G1 road test first time.
G1 Road Test
Once 1 year has passed, you are now able to take your road test.
Whilst you do not have to take it as soon as the year is up, we recommend that you try to take it as soon as possible, as you have up to 5 years to complete the entire G licence process.
So the quicker you get through it, the less stress you face from running out of time towards the end.
But it is always more important to ensure that you are ready for the test, as opposed to just doing it for the sake of it.
G2 Licence Experience
After you pass your G1 road test you are then rewarded with your G2 licence.
Similarly to your G1 licence, you have to wait 1 year before you can take your G2 road test and claim your G licence.
And now that you have proven yourself to be a competent driver, it’s time to start knuckling down on some of the tricky aspects of driving.
For each driver, what they find difficult is different, however there are often a few crossovers that the majority are not comfortable with.
So, write yourself a list, or make a mental note of the aspects that you are less comfortable with, and go and practice them!
It is important to practice as the G2 road test, tests for the more advanced aspects of driving.
G2 Road Test
Then it’s time for the big day! You’ll have been preparing for a few years, just for that moment. The G2 road test.
Much like your G1 test, don’t just go into this test without being fully prepared for what’s to come.
If you take the test feeling confident, you are much more likely to pass first time.
The G Licence
Once you have successfully passed both the G1 and G2 road tests, you will have officially earned your G licence.
And you will then deserve a massive congratulations for doing so!
